SOL declared as Champs in the 2nd Great IP Debate

Three Juris Doctor students of Tarlac State University-School of Law (SOL) won in the 2nd Great Debate on Intellectual Property held at Angeles University Foundation, Angeles City on October 11, 2019.  

Jerich Ralph Lobo, Vivien Claire Coleen Yalung, and John Christopher Yu represented the university along with Atty. Jose Dela Rama, SOL Dean, Atty. Catherine Rose Diaz-Cunanan, and Atty. Marco Polo Cunanan. 

The debate held is a discourse which aims to address the issues and concerns regarding IP law and how it affects the economy of Third World Countries such as the Philippines. The proposition argued by the opposing teams is on the IP law curtailing innovation and creating unjust monopolies. 

The TSU team, who stood on the negative side, bested the law students from Bulacan State University. 

Yalung was also awarded as the best speaker in the said competition. 

The invited adjudicators were Atty. Louie Andrew Calvario of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines, Mr. Jocel De Guzman of Globe Telecom, and Atty. Marianne Beltran-Angeles of AUF who served as the chief adjudicator. 

The arbitrator was Atty. Hywel Jose Vergara of the Optical Media Board (OMB) 

The debate is part of the OMB’s celebration of the National Anti-Piracy Month this October themed “Focusing on Strategies that Work: Integrating Technology and Consumerism,” pursuant to Proclamation No. 596 of President Rodrigo Duterte earlier published by the Philippine Information Agency.
